The Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and International Development
Research Center (IDRC) award fellowship grants to students from South Asian
countries to pursue higher education in social sciences.
In this second round of
fellowships grants, ten students were selected from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India,
Nepal and Pakistan to study Masters, Mphil and PHD in the field of governance,
security and justice in various universities across South Asia.
The recipient of fellowships
include Ranjini Basu,. Piu Chatterjee and Barkha Sharda from India; Kausila
Timsina from Bhutan; Bishal Kumar Bhandari from Nepal; Annesa Rahman from
Bangladesh; Gullali Jogezai, Saeeda Khan, Amir Mustafa and Muhammad Usman from
Pakistan.
The fellowships program managed
by SDPI and supported by IDRC Canada intend to address research gaps and
produce skilled professionals, researchers and policy-makers in South Asian
countries. Last year in the first round of fellowships, eight students
were provided scholarship grants.
“This
fellowship program contributes towards a broader vision of promotion of peace
and harmony in South Asia,” said SDPI Executive Director, Dr. Abid Qaiyum
Suleri. He was hopeful of selected scholars who would serve as
representatives of peace in their respected countries.
Talking on capacity
building of selected fellows, Dr. Vaqar Ahmed, Deputy Executive Director, SDPI
said that these selected candidates would be trained on advance research
design, field research, academic writings, and study dissemination through
advocacy and outreach. Scholar would also be provided possibility to share
their research findings internationally, he added.
