A total of 2,810 Industrial Units have been closed in the country from Jan 2012 to-date, says a report of Industries Department of all Provincial Governments and Export Processing Zones Authority placed in the National Assembly by the Ministry of Industry and Production.
According to the report 2,753 industrial units have been closed in provinces and 57 in EPZA in last 23 months.
As many as 1,198 Industrial Units have been closed in Sindh, followed by 919 in Punjab, 478 in Khyber Pakhtunkhaw and 158 in Balochistan.
Giving reasons of the closure of Industrial Units, the report blamed financial crunch, outstanding dues, high cost of production, law & order situation, electricity and gas load shedding and partnership disputes.
