Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal on Friday said the eleventh five-year development plan and the long-term Vision 2025 would be finalized by the end of December after thorough consultation.
The Minister said in his address at the consultative meeting for Vision Pakistan 2025 held at the Convention Centre here, with Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif as the chief guest. Ahsan Iqbal said the aim is to prepare a roadmap with national consensus for development in all sectors of economy. He said no country can prosper unless it has continuity in its policies and has the ability to adjust itself with the global changes and information revolution.
He said the consultative meeting would focus on seven major themes including energy security, economic revival with a focus on mobilizing indigenous resources, development of human and social capital, infrastructure development, value addition of economy and agriculture sectors, institutional reforms and bringing reforms for improving security to ensure sustainable development.
He said about 1000 experts from all fields of life had been gathered to give input for ensuring rapid and sustainable short and long-term socio-economic development of the country.
Ahsan Iqbal said 50 groups of experts would go into deliberation and would discuss whole day the future strategy for speedy development in their respective fields.
He said in the light of their recommendations, the government will finalize the 11th five-year development plan and long-term 2025 vision by the end of December.
He stressed the role of private sector, academia and civil society in accomplishing this task with the government’s role as a facilitator.
