PTA to conduct competitive auction for deployment of 3G, Dar

A meeting of the Spectrum Auction Advisory Committee was held under the chairmanship of Federal Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar at the Finance Ministry on Wednesday.

Secretary Ministry of Information Technology, Mr. Akhlaq Tarrar briefed the Committee on the progress made so far on the auction of licenses. He informed the Committee that all the timelines given to complete the process are being followed. He also informed the Committee that a Turkish Telephone Company Turk Cell will be visiting Islamabad for due diligence in this regard.

The Finance Minister emphasized that the whole process should be completed with transparency and  diligently. He expressed his satisfaction over the progress made so far. He expressed the hope that PTA will conduct competitive auction for deployment of next generation mobile network. He concluded that with the introduction of new technology the local telecom industry will benefit from transfer of technology and users will also have new features.

The meeting was also attended by Ms. Anusha Rehman, MOS Information Technology, Dr. Waqar Masood, Finance Secretary, Rana Assad Amin, Advisor to Finance Ministry and senior officials of Ministries of Information Technology and Finance.
