“Government is reforming dysfunctional public sector structure through various interventions including linking of promotions and career progression of civil servants with the performance, evaluated on the bases of measurable criteria and key performance indicators.” said, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal while talking to Dr. Muhammad Mustafa, Executive Director, Medina Institute of Leadership and Entrepreneurship (MILE). Federal Minister said, “Public Sector management structure has become obsolete and such reforms are being introduced which may not only encourage the committed and hardworking officers but also discourage the progression of corrupt nonperformance. Performance of the civil servants will be measured according to objective based criteria and incentives will be linked with the performance”.
Federal Minister further highlighted to Dr. Muhammad Mustafa, “Through Pakistan Vision 2025 we are seeking a new type of partnership between Government, Private Sector and Academia where government will formulate supportive public policy; private sector will provide investment and universities and to come to provide ideas. The Trio of Government-Academia-Private Sector partnership will serve the purpose of inclusive and sustainable development in the country.” The Minister further said, “National Research Agenda Conference is being organized under HEC soon, in order to formulate a national research agenda for the next decade. The purpose of the Conference is to finalize national research agenda in consultation with stakeholders to align knowledge base with the development agenda.”
Dr. Muhammad Mustafa appreciated the Federal Minister for discussing in detail the reform agenda of the government and agreed with the Minister that good practices and lessons should be shared by the friendly countries like Pakistan and Suadi Arabia and Pakistan can learn much from the practices and lessons learnt by KSA while facing similar Institutional challenges which Pakistan is facing today.
